I'm determined to learn how to make games! Ladies, you can sign up for free, too!
If you identify as a woman, Code Liberation invites you to our openFrameworks workshops (9/25 and 9/26). Please sign up for one or both! They are a part of the Code Liberation Game Jam (9/27-9/29).
These workshops are open to women from all walks of life and skill levels, this game jam (similar to a hackathon) will be held at NYU-Poly's MAGNET space in downtown Brooklyn.
Ever wanted to make an interactive toy or game, but not known what to make it with? openFrameworks is a great tool for any aspiring artist, coder, or game designer to check out. oF wraps together a ton of useful resources (for graphics, audio input/analysis, fonts, image loading/saving, video playback/recording, computer vision, and more), meaning that you can focus less on wrangling OpenGL draw calls and more on developing your project!
These workshops will be a crash course in C++ and oF, taught in Code Liberation's fun, friendly, and accessible manner. Topics include:
- Basic computer science principles (datatypes, logic, loops, etc.)
- Drawing primitives (circles, squares, triangles, lines)
- Loading images, sounds, and other outside assets
- Tracking mouse and keyboard input
- Game loops
By the end of the workshops, students will have a familiarity with the fundamentals of visual coding, and will have worked through several short game examples that they can continue to learn from and riff off in later projects.
P.S. If you can't make the jam but still want to come to the workshops, that's fine too!
